The Mug That Stole My Ego

Good morning, friends.

I’m sitting here with a coffee in hand. It’s not just any mug – it’s a travel mug with someone else’s name stuck on it, crookedly. There’s a story there, of course.

Years ago, I bought two of these mugs. I left one on a tugboat I manage, and someone stole it. They later admitted it with a smile: “I thought it was someone else’s, so I stole it.” Fair enough. Maritime justice.

The other mug – this one – I brought onboard another boat. I told the crew jokingly but also semi-seriously: “Don’t steal this mug. It’s my special mug.” Naturally, I left it behind. When I came back the next day, I found it sitting in the galley with a sticker that read Troy Payne slapped on it by one of the guys.

We all had a good laugh.
